About the sector

Andhra Pradesh occupies a premier position in the country’s agribusiness industry with major contributions in the areas such as Aqua culture, Horticulture, Dairy and Poultry. Around 60% of the State’s population is employed in agriculture and related activities, which enables Andhra Pradesh to be a leader in hosting various downstream processing industries. The GVA of the Agriculture & Allied Sector for the year 2021-22 is estimated to be INR 2 Lakh Cr., with a growth rate of 11.27%.

The Agri & Food processing exports from the state for the year 2021-22 stood at INR 44,539 crores (US $5.95 bn) registering a growth of 5.95%, despite the supply chain interruptions caused due to the pandemic.

Sector Highlights & Key Initiatives

Government of Andhra Pradesh introduced the flagship program YSR Rhythu Bharosa for supporting the cultivators in timely sourcing of quality inputs and services for higher crop productivity.

As per AP Food Processing Policy 2025, GoAP is developing common facility Integrated Production Centres in all Districts of the state.

New crops introduced for enabling higher income for the farmers such as Dragon fruit, Taiwan Guava, Mauritius variety of Pineapple, Strawberry, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Japanese Mint, etc.

Organic farming of Mango, Cashew, Turmeric, Chilli, and Vegetables in an extent of 11250 hectares promoted through the International Competence Centre for Organic Agriculture (ICCOA) & Sikkim State Co-operative Supply and Marketing Federation Ltd. (SIMFED)
